Master description

Postgraduate studies “Underwater Archeology” are addressed to divers who want to expand their knowledge of the specialty of underwater archeology and protection of underwater cultural heritage. The study program aims to familiarize students with a wide range of topics related to underwater archeology and its aspects, e.g. maritime and inland archaeology, techniques and methods of conducting underwater archaeological work. The study program also includes a number of classes in the field of auxiliary sciences accompanying the “underwater archaeology” specialization, such as: conservation, bioarchaeology, seabed geology, hydrography, museology and a number of other issues important in the research process. During the studies, students theoretically and practically become familiar with techniques of field documentation, underwater photography, drawing and surveying related to underwater geodesy and cartography. The studies also include 30 hours of field exercises carried out during archaeological underwater research at several sites in Poland and abroad.

The studies prepare for cooperation with underwater archaeologists (substantively and practically) and for activities related to the protection of underwater cultural heritage.

Postgraduate studies “Underwater Archeology” include 190 hours of didactic classes, including lectures, exercises, workshops, including 30 hours of practical field exercises carried out during archaeological trips. Subjects will be passed based on participation in classes. The studies last three semesters and  end with the preparation and defense of a diploma thesis.
