Alexandria University

Master description

The educational programs offered by the Alenxandria Centre for Maritime Archaeology and Underwater Heritage are designed both to meet the needs of students who have a four-year degree in archaeology or related disciplines (history, anthropology, museology, etc.) who wish to specialise in maritime archaeology and underwater cultural heritage, as well as those who come from a different academic background (geography, oceanography, engineering etc.) and wish to expand their scope of knowledge and skills. Therefore, the center offers a Graduate Diploma as well as a Master Degree programme in maritime archaeology and underwater cultural heritage. Upon successful completion of the programmes, the degrees are awarded by the Alexandria University.

Many of the Diploma and MA courses have inbuilt practical modules in which specific skills are introduced. The practical modules include: Underwater Photography, Boat Recording, Survey & Excavation Techniques, Finds Illustration and Field Conservation. Moreover, a number of visits to museums and archaeological sites are undertaken as part of the education programmes.

The center’s collaborative links with the Egyptian Supreme Council for Antiquities together with the archaeological missions operating in Egypt will enable students to be trained on current maritime archaeological projects.
